Description of the Programme
The Bachelor of Arts in Kiswahili and Communication has been developed in recognition of the need for good knowledge of the Kiswahili language for purposes of communication in diverse settings. The programme is designed to cover both languages and communication and seeks to develop communication experts in Kiswahili, which is Kenya’s first official language as documented in Article 7 of Kenya’s Constitution (2010). It is envisioned that the graduates from this programme will not only be equipped in Kiswahili studies but will also be well versed in the technical aspects of language in relation to communication. You will be trained to handle communication in diverse settings as well as translation and interpretation of information in various fields both in Kiswahili and other languages in a wide range of fields, such as literature, politics, trade, commerce & economics, law, science, medicine, technology, etc. The curriculum is designed to ensure relevance and response to contemporary and market needs such as emergent issues pertinent to language use; language structures; language planning & economy; language identity, nationalism, regionalism & globalization; and language application and communication, to mention a few.
