Engineering TechnologyDescription of the Programme
Bachelor of Science/Engineering in Civil Engineering or Bachelor of Science/Engineering in Civil and Structural Engineering aims at producing Civil and Structural Engineers with technical training in the general fields of structural, construction, geotechnical, high transportation, environmental and water engineering. Emphasis is placed on the fundamentals of civil and structural engineering principles and design techniques. The programme covers the planning, design, construction and management of essential infrastructure. These include:
- Commercial and industrial buildings
- Water supply and wastewater systems
- Irrigation, drainage and flood protection systems
- Bridges, roads and transport systems
- Port and airport facilities
- Energy infrastructure, etc
You will study all the major subjects that you need to master as a civil engineer, such as structures, fluids, geotechnics, materials, communications, environmental impact, surveying and mathematics. Design is central to the program and students will encounter real-world projects throughout their degree. During this program, students will gain knowledge and skills in the latest and developing technologies in civil and structural engineering and benefit from practical guidance and feedback from civil and structural experts. The focus on local engineering examples, site visits and input from external industry-based lecturers ensure students graduate ready for a career in civil and structural engineering. External practical attachment in the industry complements theoretical and laboratory training. Upon completion of the programme, graduates will have the capacity to pursue independent research, scholarly work and innovations that have practical applications.
