Description of the Programme

The challenging but rewarding field of Petroleum Engineering is concerned with the drilling, recovery, production and distribution of petroleum and natural gas. The aim of the program is to graduate practical and qualified petroleum engineers who will successfully pursue careers in the oil and gas production and related service industries. It includes knowledge of the properties of fluids and rocks in surface and subsurface environments as well as methods of exploiting the economic production of oil and gas from petroleum reservoirs. Students will get an in-depth understanding of oil and gas reservoir facilities and operations for exploration, transport and processing of crude petroleum, production of petroleum and petroleum-related products. They will learn how to evaluate, drill and mine oil and gas reserves. You will examine issues involving fluid flow through reservoirs, the role of engineering in oil and gas production, chemical engineering, basic geology, transport phenomena, drilling and well engineering. You will develop strong competence in design and analysis of well systems and procedures for drilling and completing wells; design and analysis of systems for producing, injecting and handling fluids; and characterization and evaluation of subsurface geological formations and their resources using geoscientific and engineering methods. You will also develop an in-depth understanding of corporate profit margins and global economic trends through the study of economics and project and risk management. You will gain industry exposure through field trips to service company offices and drilling sites.
