Bachelor of Arts (Counselling Psychology)

Description of the Programme 

The Bachelor of Arts in Counseling Psychology is designed to produce well equipped and competent professional counsellors with the requisite skills and expertise to help their clients to cope with such issues as: depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, emotional disorders, mental disorders, vocational problems, relationships issues and to focus on the wellness of individuals as they face various challenges in life situations. In recognition of the various socio-emotional difficulties people face, students will be trained in a wide variety of the practical and conceptual elements of Counselling Psychology. The degree programme takes cognizance of the growing demand for professional counsellors mainly with undergraduate or postgraduate degrees. Graduates will be trained to work in a wide range of settings such as: hospitals, education institutions, academic administrative posts, counselling and rehabilitating centres, mental health centres and crisis intervention centres. The curriculum includes courses like Professional Counseling, Theories of Counseling Psychology, Human Growth and Development, Ethical and Legal Issues, Communication Skills for Counselors, Group Therapy, Research Methods in Counseling Psychology, Voluntary Counseling and Testing, Counseling for Medical Conditions, Psychological Assessments, Trauma and Trauma Counseling, Substance Abuse Counseling, Therapeutic Psychology, etc. Students will also be required to undertake Counseling Practicum to put into practice what they have studied in class.
