Engineering TechnologyDescription of the Programme
Aeronautical Engineering is the study of the design, development, manufacture, testing, science and technology, maintenance and control of aircraft, including machines or vehicles operating in the earth’s atmosphere or in outer space. The programme focuses on designing and constructing aircraft and aircraft components. From the latest wide-bodied aircraft to the next generation of the space shuttle, aeronautical engineers have to figure out how to make them fly efficiently and reliably. The programme will therefore prepare you and equip you with the requisite knowledge and skills in engineering design, wind tunnel testing, engine design and testing and flight testing of new aircraft. The design of aircraft is complex and requires in-depth knowledge of many engineering disciplines such as aircraft propulsion systems, aircraft structures, aerodynamics, structural design, flight mechanics, avionics, aerospace materials, aircraft stability, flight control systems, computational methods in fluids mechanics, experimental fluid mechanics, Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), flight testing, etc. Maintaining and operating aircraft demands an understanding of materials, reliability and maintenance, structural analysis for necessary repairs, together with knowledge of disciplines within the design process. The training matches theory with applied studies such as practical instruction, computing and laboratory experiments.
