Bachelor of Science (Industrial Chemistry)

Description of the Programme

Industrial Chemistry is the branch of chemistry that deals with the development, optimization and monitoring of fundamental physical and chemical processes used in the industry in the transformation of raw materials and precursors into useful commercial products that are of benefit to humanity. The programme aims to produce highly trained industrial chemists with industrial development and managerial skills to meet the challenges of industrial development. The programme provides a broad education within chemistry with applications of engineering, mathematical and management principles. It comprises a range of courses in pure chemistry, chemical engineering, economics, environmental management, industrial management and law among others. Graduates of this degree programme are therefore industrial chemists with knowledge linkages in chemical processing, engineering, industrial management and economics. Students will be exposed to research projects and instructions in instrumental analysis, chemical spectroscopy, nano-chemistry, forensic chemistry, coordination and organ metallic chemistry, organic synthesis, computational chemistry, natural product chemistry, polymer chemistry and composites, solid-state chemistry, catalytic chemistry and environmental chemistry.
