Bachelor of Science (Instrumentation & Control Engineering)

Description of the Programme

Instrumentation and Control Engineering degree programme is designed to produce highly trained and qualified instrumentation and control engineers ready to take up challenging roles in industrial research, commercial and industrial organizations. It is a fundamental discipline that aims to provide students with sound practical and theoretical training in the design, measurements systems as well as operation and maintenance of automated process control systems. Instrumentation is important in product testing and quality control, safety, cost, monitoring for health purposes, control systems, research and development etc. Experience has shown that the ability to control effectively is often limited by the quality of measurements. Therefore, it is crucial for the Control Engineer to understand the limitations and quality of measurement systems. Similarly, the Instrument Engineer has to understand the nature and problems of a control system as well as the quality and limitations of control philosophy. You will be well-grounded in material sciences, digital circuit and design, circuit theory, fundamentals of electronics, computer programming, electrical and electronic measurements, electrical machines, introduction to signals and systems, industrial process control, optical/electronic communication etc. The programme is industry-oriented and is designed to produce graduate engineers capable of adapting to changes in technology in line with the government’s Vision 2030 policy. The compulsory industrial attachment provides the students with invaluable skills, knowledge and experience of the design and implementation of the automation process and instrumentation systems.
