Engineering TechnologyDescription of the Programme
Renewable energy refers to energy from naturally replenishing sources, such as the sun, wind, water, biofuels or the earth’s sub-surface (geothermal energy). The demand for renewable energy is ever increasing owing to its non-environmental pollution and the diminishing non-renewable energy sources such as fossil fuels. Like non-renewable energy sources, renewable energy requires technology for harnessing. As a result, expertise in harnessing and application of renewable energy is a vital demand in Kenya. It is on this background that a Bachelor of Science in Renewable Energy and Technology has been developed. This programme therefore offers an opportunity to the students to study the Physics of Renewable Energy Sources, Renewable Energy and the Technologies involved in harnessing the different forms of Renewable Energy. The training covers hydroelectricity, solar power, geothermal, biomass, wind energy, fossil fuel and nuclear energy. The course is geared towards equipping graduates with skills to enable them to contribute effectively to the growing global effort to enhance sustainable energy sources. It is designed to respond to the growing emphasis on energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies and is structured to prepare students to understand the scientific principles of renewable energy technology.
