Engineering TechnologyDescription of the Programme
The demand for renewable energy is ever increasing owing to its non-environmental pollution and the diminishing finite energy reserves e.g. oil, coal and gas. The programme is intended to provide highly trained manpower with a broad range of conceptual and practical skills geared towards enhancing renewable energy and biofuel technology and energy consultancy. It prepares graduates to play a key role in the reshaping of industries to make them both financially and environmentally sustainable across three streams: Biological Solutions, Environmental Solutions and Technology Solutions. The use of oil-based fuels has both economic and environmental impacts. Both consumers and businesses are affected by fluctuations in oil prices. Furthermore, oil-based fuels release emissions that are harmful to the environment including greenhouse gases (GHGs). Consequently, scientists and engineers have sought ways to develop alternative fuels, such as biofuels. Biofuels are solid, liquid or gaseous fuels derived from biological raw materials (recently dead or living plant material and animal waste). Biofuels can reduce the use of oil-based fuels and can be more environmentally friendly.
