Description of the Programme

The study of Economics is central to an understanding of markets, resource allocation, business, government policies, trade, development, consumer behaviour, health, poverty, inflation, unemployment, taxes, income determination, international issues, globalization and the environment among others. This degree programme is especially meant for students intending to become economists, advisors and analysts and in the public and private sectors and leads to careers in finance, business, international development, marketing, human resource management, health, management and research among other key sectors. In this programme, you will study a wide range of mathematical, statistical and analytical tools that can be used to explain why individuals, organizations and governments make the decisions that they do by studying microeconomics, macroeconomics, economic history, econometrics, environmental and resource economics, money markets, labour economics, health economics, international trade and development, statistics and mathematical tools among other subjects. Graduates are equipped with the requisite knowledge and skills to work on important policy and decision challenges in government, business firms and other organizations both locally and internationally. You will learn how to use analytical tools and economic theories to figure out how the economy is operating and to identify and communicate the effects of government policies in both domestic and international environments.
