Description of the Programme

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc Nursing) degree programme is designed to provide students with the knowledge and clinical skills required to provide high-quality nursing care in multiple settings, including acute care, primary health care, mental health and health promotion. You will be prepared for increasingly complex health care situations in Kenya and internationally, gaining invaluable skills in clinical decision-making, client care, communication and research developed through extensive clinical experience in various settings. Clinical nursing experience is a major component of the course. The curriculum is designed to provide theory and research-based clinical practice that focuses on critical thinking, human caring and clinical expertise. The combination of nursing science curriculum with related disciplines — including the biological, social, behavioral, medical, pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences — prepares nursing students to address the span of healthcare needs and be leaders in both the healthcare and academic environments. You will also be trained to identify the health needs of a population and execute the necessary interventions; manage patients and clients in diverse health care settings; manage, monitor and evaluate health programmes; and participate in inter-sectoral, multi-disciplinary and collaborative teams in the provision of healthcare among other competencies. You will be a competently trained clinical practitioner who will greatly contribute to reducing global disease burden, maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. To practice as a nurse in Kenya, you must be registered by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
