Bachelor of Science (Electrical and Electronics Engineering)

Description of the Programme

The Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering aims at producing highly qualified electrical and electronics engineers who can use electrical and electronic engineering tools to solve real-world problems. Electrical and electronic engineering tools, such as mobile phones, digital TV, generators, motors, computer and wireless networking are bringing in a revolution in the lives of businesses and individuals. The global economy relies increasingly on high-speed data and other digital data networks interconnecting computers and other digital devices across the world. All aspects of business, starting from research and development to production, to marketing and sales, benefit from the rapid advances in such technology. Electrical engineers devise solutions to generate and use electrical power efficiently and cleanly, while electronic engineers design, implement and maintain electronic devices and systems, including those found in communications, defence and hospitals among others. The training encompasses the design and control of the electrical and electronic devices and systems required to power and improves the lives of people and communities. It also covers various sub-areas of electrical and electronic engineering, including generation, distribution and conversion of electrical energy; control systems; analogue and digital electronics; power electronics and drives; communications and network engineering; computer engineering and embedded systems; audio signal processing; image processing; biomedical signal processing; sensors and measurement technologies; instrumentation; and biomedical electronics and engineering among others fields. The programme is further designed to provide the candidates with social science, communication and management skills to enable them to function in today’s multifaceted world.
