Description of the Programme
Analytical Chemistry is the study of the separation, identification, and quantification of the chemical components of natural and artificial materials. This course is designed to meet the needs of analytical and industrial chemical laboratories in teaching, research, and industrial chemical processes and quality control. The major fields of study shall include basic organic, inorganic and physical chemistry in addition to biochemical techniques, instrumental methods of analysis and general industrial processes. At the end of year two of study, there will be field/industrial attachment for an opportunity to practice and develop analytical skills in a work environment. Students will be trained to: handle and maintain equipment used in teaching, research and quality control laboratories; plan and administer routine chemical analysis and safety regulations in teaching, research and industrial environment; carry out chemical analytical protocols in various research fields e.g. agriculture, environmental pollution, biochemistry etc; participate in technological developments in various scientific fields.
