Programme Overview
This programme has been developed on a competency based approach to enable trainees acquire the requisite knowledge and skills that they will apply in supervision, operation and maintenance of water engineering works and allied facilities. Upon completion of the entire programme, the trainees will be able to:
• Apply skills required in problem solving involving collection and analyses of data, and implementation of solutions accurately and efficiently in the water sector.
• Apply skills required in management of the environment and water resources and their related tasks.
• Identify aquifer formations for groundwater assessment survey.
• Understand the principles of planning and design of the water supply, wastewater and irrigation and drainage system.
• Sink and equip boreholes for groundwater abstractions.
• Construct and install water supply, wastewater and irrigation and drainage systems.
• Apply skills required in management and operation and maintenance of the components within the water supply, wastewater, solid waste and irrigation and drainage systems.
Admission Requirements
The minimum qualification for entry to the craftsman certificate programme in Water Engineering is as follows:
i. Kenya certificate of Secondary Education with an aggregate mean grade D+ (plus), or
ii. An approved equivalent qualification which may be from Kenya or from other countries
iii. A minimum grade of D+ in each of the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or Physical Sciences.
Course Duration
2 years with one graded industrial attachment session in the third semester of the first year lasting 12 continuous weeks.
