The program provides students with the knowledge, core competencies and transferable skills for diverse careers in resource management, urban and regional planning, education, industry, public administration, transport and business among other fields. The programme introduces students mainly to Physical and Human Geography and provides them with a range of theoretical, applied and field-based courses including specialized courses in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing techniques, environmental analysis, computer-assisted cartography, land use assessment & planning and applied human and earth resource management. Your studies will also include climate change, biogeography, coastal and fluvial environments, populations, urban and regional societies, spatial geography, globalization, geopolitics, agrifood and environmental management. Some of the courses covered in the curriculum include Population Geography, Land Use Planning, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography of Tourism and Travel Management, Urban Geography, Photogrammetry, Soil Survey and Mapping, Political Geography, Medical Geography, Land Surveying, Agricultural Geography, Environmental Management, Digital Image Processing, Remote Sensing and GIS and Industrial Geography among other courses. Students will be well equipped with knowledge and skills in:
- Demographic and economic analysis
- Cultural landscape interpretation
- Physical landscape interpretation and landform reconstruction
- Weather, wave, tide and river monitoring and analysis
- Mapping and analyzing information using GIS
- GPS field mapping of landforms and air photo analysis
- Cartography and geo-visualization
- Laboratory analysis of soils and sediments
- Spatial data analysis
- Spatial data analysis and geographical information systems
- Landform and hydrological interpretation
