The world over and in Kenya in particular, prisons are undergoing reforms that are intended to make them less punitive and more rehabilitative. As a consequence, it has become critical for penal systems to be run by personnel with professional training in penology, correction and administration. This programme is therefore designed to meet the professional and power needs of the reformed correctional system. Graduates will be equipped to: handle counselling and rehabilitation matters; handle administration and management of correctional facilities; and conduct research and dissemination of knowledge on penology and correctional issues. The programme is multidisciplinary encompassing other disciplines like sociology, psychology and criminology among others. You will study Introduction to Criminology and penology, Victimology and Restorative Justice, Incarceration and Rehabilitation process, Deviation and Rehabilitation, Prison management, Psychology and criminal behavior, Financial Management, Communication Skills, Criminal Law in Kenya, Substance Abuse and Addiction, Criminal Justice, Probation and Parole, Capital Punishment, etc.
