Political Science and Public Administration are two closely related disciplines that deal with the scientific study of political and administrative subjects. The degree programme is designed to prepare students for professional careers in Public Service, Politics, Foreign Service and the Private Sector.
Political Science
Political Science is the study of politics and government. It analyses the processes by which resources are allocated and values are developed and discussed within a political system. The discipline further explores concepts like power, legitimacy, authority, political participation, gender, social class and ethnicity on the one hand, and institutions like government, state, pressure groups, political parties and international organizations on the other. As a field of study, Political Science also deals with political ideologies and ideas concerning issues like ideologies, political justice and political ideals such as democracy, liberty, equality and morality. It also focuses on the processes that formulate, execute and enforce the laws of society. Graduates will acquire the requisite knowledge and skills required for the rigorous analysis of political situations.
Publuc Administration
On the other hand, Public Administration addresses issues of governance, organization and policy in democratic societies and equips students with the skills necessary for challenging and dynamic administrative and executive careers in the public service, private sector and international organizations. The programme comprises the study of diverse theories of administration, public service, public organizations as well as the constitutional framework. You will study democratic values of justice, equality, security and order as well as issues of governance and public policy. By adopting comprehensive training, the study of public administration encompasses a variety of specialized subfields including politics and public policy; the nexus between public administration and politics; government structure; public sector management; public budgeting and finance; nonprofit administration; personnel management and ethics; policy development; planning, program assessment and evaluation; urban planning; etc. Since the programme combines both theory and practice, you will be empowered by gaining the necessary knowledge and skills to be accomplished professionals in the public service, private and corporate domains.
