Bachelor of Arts (Religious Studies)

Description of the Programme Bachelor of Arts (Religious Studies) examines the spiritual quest of humankind, especially as it has manifested itself in the world’s living religions. It uses a phenomenological and interdisciplinary approach to the subject of religions of the world for instance Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, African Traditional Religion, among others. You will understand the social dimensions and consequences of religion in the contemporary world employing empirical and theoretical approaches but maintaining considerable depth of expertise in the textual, conceptual and linguistic foundations of major religious traditions. Students will be exposed to the history, cultures and belief systems of different religions and understand the role of religion in the public life. They study the influence of faith-based organizations in the emergence of new cultural identities, loyalties, political ideologies and economic practices. Candidates will be equipped to research, articulate and expose religion to the public as an indispensable component of integral development progress of human society. They will encounter new ways of understanding the world, learn exciting methods of analysis, and develop sophistication in the interpretation of religious texts, beriefs and practices.
