Engineering TechnologyDescription of the Programme
Mechanical & production engineers are professionals trained in designing and manufacturing industrial products as well as maintaining the plant and machine components. The production engineering component emphasizes operations and process management and industrial organization. Although often associated with the automotive and aerospace industries, and with engines in general, in reality, it covers the design, development and operation of just about anything with a moving part: from racing cars to replacement hip joints, and from lawnmowers and washing machines to space stations. Modern technology is central in this degree programme, with computer-aided design and computer-aided engineering often featuring throughout the training. Students can expect to cover topics like fluid and solid mechanics, thermodynamics, engineering materials and maths for engineering. To graduate, students will be expected to complete at least one major research and design project.
