Description of the Programme

Bachelor of International Tourism Management examines the tourism industry from a global perspective, with a triple bottom line approach of cultural, environmental and economic impact which is underpinned by the principles of sustainability. The course is particularly meant for individuals who are passionate about crossing continents and cultures. It provides students with a meticulous understanding of tourism management at both the domestic and international levels underpinned by core business skills.  The programme provides students with a sound understanding of the tourism industry and its role in the world. You will explore, among others, how tourism businesses operate and the impact of tourism on countries, the environment and cultures. The programme covers issues in tourism planning and development; policy, strategic development and global best practices in tourism; and approaches required to best respond to the opportunities and challenges presented in global tourism. The curriculum encompasses courses such as international destination management, cruise ship tourism, global politics in tourism and sustainable tourism, cultural tourism, nature-based tourism, festival and event design and management as well as sports tourism and enterprise among others. The programme includes an industrial attachment which provides an invaluable opportunity for students to apply what they have studied in class and also make industry contacts.
