The Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.Ch.B) degree programme is designed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills that a doctor needs to practice medicine in a modern clinical setting. This highly challenging but extremely rewarding programme focuses on preparing students with extensive knowledge in medical sciences and clinical skills to produce qualified and competent medical professionals who are equipped for the latest practices and developments in the industry. The M.B.Ch.B curriculum places a strong emphasis on clinical training in medicine and surgery and will equip you with the medical, clinical and research skills for pursuing a vocation in any field of medicine. All the courses in the programme are core and must be successfully completed by the student before graduation. These will comprise of lectures, practicals, rotations and clinical instruction, field courses and combined community health attachments where applicable. The programme covers Human Anatomy, Medical Biochemistry, Medical Physiology, Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, Community Health, Pathology, Pharmacology, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Psychiatry, Peadiatrics & Child Health, Reproductive Health, Anesthesia, Behavioural Sciences and Ethics. Upon completion of the medical degree, graduates are required to apply for provisional registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board (KMPDB). Provisional registration is required to undertake a 12-month internship that provides supervised clinical experience in an approved hospital. After successful completion of the internship, graduates are eligible to apply to KMPDB for general registration, allowing them to practice in Kenya.
