Description of the Programme

The Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education and Extension degree programme is designed to meet the Teachers Service Commission requirements and is suitable for the following categories of applicants:

1. Those who intend to join the teaching profession in Agriculture in Secondary Schools as per Teachers Service Commission requirements.
2. Those who intend to teach and work in Agriculture and Livestock and related institutions as per Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock requirements.

The primary aim of this programme is to prepare graduates with appropriate technical and professional competencies in agriculture, biology and extension education. The training is intended to enable graduates to: i) plan and teach agriculture and biology in secondary schools, teacher training colleges, and agricultural institutions; ii) develop, implement and evaluate agricultural education programmes; iii) plan, implement and evaluate agricultural extension and rural development programmes; manage educational and agricultural organizations; iv) design and conduct research in agricultural education and agricultural extension; v) develop and conduct training in agricultural extension and; and vi) pursue further education in agriculture, agricultural education or extension. The skills and knowledge acquired will enable trainees to communicate effectively; demonstrate creativity and initiative in the field of agriculture and education. Hence, the graduate of the programme is an all-round individual with a blend of courses in agricultural sciences, education, business, agricultural and extension education, biology, and community development among others.
