The Bachelor of Science in Clinical Medicine is a professional degree programme that has been designed to train Clinical Officers. Clinical Officers are responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases; preventive, promotive, and curative health care services; promotion of community health services; management of health centers, outpatient units of hospitals and other workplaces. Students will acquire the requisite knowledge and skills required in the provision of healthcare that integrates curative, preventive, promotive and rehabilitative services; management of health services and participation in health education to the public. The training focuses on clinical medicine, community/public health and health center management. The curriculum covers reproductive health, paediatrics, anatomy, physiology, internal medicine, minor surgery, psychiatry, pharmacology, community/public health and research methodology among other modules. Specialized units include ophthalmology, ENT, oncology, dental health and dermatology. Students will gain adequate skills in management and leadership in community health. The professional practice of Clinical Officers is regulated by an Act of parliament (Cap. 260 of the Laws of Kenya) which is charged with training, registration and licensing. This ensures that high standards are maintained during training and practice while observing professional ethics of conduct.
