Engineering TechnologyDescription of the Programme
Electronic and computer engineering is an interdisciplinary branch of engineering which combines a fundamental study in electrical engineering with computing. It is increasingly recognised that the combination of electrical engineering and computer studies equips graduates with an excellent basis upon which valuable engineering roles in the modern industry can be built. In modern engineering systems, computers are essential ingredients in computer-aided design and communication networks and in-process control of modern manufacturing plants. The programme aims to give the graduates a combination of expertise from computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, electronic systems and electronic components. It also aims to produce graduates who can design, test and maintain computer systems. Graduates will possess the skills needed to design and maintain electronic and computer systems for a wide variety of engineering applications. They will also be well-grounded in advanced engineering mathematics, microcomputer technology and systematic engineering design. The programme spans all scales of electrical and electronic engineering from the fundamentals of circuits, electronic signals and signal processing, through to digital electronics and chip-based systems, to the design of large-scale power and telecommunication systems. Electronic and computer engineering encompasses biomedical, computer systems, electronics, electrical power engineering, robotics and telecommunications. You might design products such as smartphones, virtual reality systems, video games, robotic devices, etc.
