Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science provides a foundation for a career in medical diagnosis and other health-related fields. The programme builds on a general introduction to cell biology, human biology and human molecular genetics to cover a range of clinical laboratory disciplines including clinical chemistry/clinical biochemistry, haematology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, molecular pathology, histopathology and transfusion science. You will gain extensive knowledge of disease processes as well as technical skills in the handling of patient material, clinical testing, analysis and troubleshooting of results. The programme is designed to provide wide exposure to the fundamental principles involved in the measurement of clinical parameters. You will acquire the expertise needed to work as a Medical Laboratory Scientist who routinely performs diagnostic testing using human clinical specimens. This degree programme is designed to provide the technical skills and knowledge necessary to qualify an individual for work in a diagnostic clinical laboratory, research or industry. This vocational and professionally oriented course combines theoretical and laboratory-based curriculum along with industry placements in research and health institutions.
