Description of the Programme
Petroleum Chemistry is a highly specialized and career-oriented degree programme for students interested in pursuing opportunities in the petroleum and petrochemical industries. Kenya has discovered large oil reserves and will be among the largest oil-producing countries in Africa. Consequently, oil will account for a significant percentage of Kenya’s exports, foreign exchange earnings, government revenue and gross domestic product. The structure provides an intense chemistry-focused degree programme for the petroleum and related fields. The programme is therefore designed to prepare students to assume careers in oil and petroleum industries as well as emerging careers brought about by Kenya’s discovery of oil reserves and restructuring of the petrochemical sector focusing on the refining and distribution of petroleum products, innovation of new petrochemicals and their processing and in-depth laboratory analysis of various petroleum-related specimens.
