Description of the Programme
This course involves the use of a 3-dimensional coordinate measuring technique that uses photographs as the fundamental medium for metrology (or measurement). The fundamental principle used by Photogrammetry is triangulation or more specifically called Aerial Triangulation. Remote Sensing is the scanning of the earth by satellite, high-flying aircraft, LIDAR in order to obtain information about it. This course provides students with an overview of how to collect, process, and use complimentary (from multiple sources) remotely sensed data in the evaluation of natural environments. The course also covers principles of remote sensing using acquisition systems using optical, infrared and microwave systems; characteristics of sensor systems (active and passive) and their measurements with spectral, resolution and spatial responses; satellite imagery, spatial transformation and convolution; digital image processing, calibration, noise reduction, radiometric and geometric correction; stereoscopy and project planning among others.
