Description of the Programme
Refrigeration and Air conditioning has many uses in the world today: food is chilled, frozen and stored using refrigent gas, and our shops, hospitals, and offices are cooled with air conditioning. The programme prepares the trainees to be specialists in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning. The qualification provides competencies to develop systems, select equipment, commission, maintain and diagnose faults/malfunctions of refrigeration systems and equipment that apply to commercial food storage and preservation and air conditioning and air distribution equipment and special applications. It also includes regulatory requirements for purchasing and handling refrigerants. The training includes basic refrigeration systems, cycles and components; system installation; electrical control systems; mechanical and electrical skills; refrigerants and refrigeration load calculation; safety; system design, installation, operation; and test and repair system components among other courses. Students will also acquire knowledge and skills in Special refrigeration systems, Automobile Air Conditioning, Marine Refrigeration, Refrigeration of Containers/Trucks etc.
