Bachelor of Education (Home Science and Technology)

Description of the Programme Home Science is an integral part of the secorndary school curriculum in Kenya. The main purpose of the course is to provide students with knowledge and skills for personal development, family living and professional specialization. The skills learnt in Home Science are directly applicable in a wide variety of manufacturing and service industries and are crucial to help the country realize its industrialization goals. The course consists of three core areas: – Food and Nutrition including Food Science experiment a full meal management and community nutrition. Home Management including child care, household equipment, housing and furnishings and consumer economics. Clothing and Textiles to include flat pattern designing, clothing construction and costume and apparel design. Major topics in the core curriculum include Home Management, Food and Nutrition, Microbiology for Home Science, Principles of Economics, Institutional Management, Family Resource Management, Consumer Economics and Management, Community Nutrition, Costume and Apparel Design as well as Research Methods. Students will also be required to undertake a supervised Research Project.
