Tourism is one of the most important industries in Kenya. This programme provides a comprehensive background to the local and international dimensions of the tourism industry and to equip students with skills to critically analyse the tourism industry and its impacts on society, the environment and the economy. You will study how tourism works and how tourism businesses operate. The programme is inter-disciplinary covering a wide range of subjects and it is designed to cover the key aspects required for managing diverse tourism businesses. Topics covered include destination marketing, tourism and planning development, financial management, business research and analytics, strategic management, tourism operations, travel and tour operations, ecotourism, sustainability, policy and planning, social and economic impacts of tourism, niche markets, and environmental conservation and foreign languages among others. Case studies and site visits provide practical and relevant skills and knowledge to ensure your success upon graduation. Students are also expected to complete supervised industry placement where they gain valuable work-place skills and insights.
