Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning

Description of the Programme

The Bachelor of Arts in Urban and Regional Planning is designed to produce informed professionals who shall make judicious planning and development decisions. The programme aims to equip the student to comprehend urban and regional planning at different scales including:

  • The regional planning and development
  • The urban planning and design
  • The rural planning and development
  • The site planning and design
  • The land-use planning

Students will learn how to plan cities and communities in their entirety, from infrastructure, transport, land-use and urban design through to real estate, markets, sustainability, investment, regulatory frameworks and community consultation. The course therefore focuses on the intersections between environment, landscape architecture, urban design and geography. As an Urban and regional planner, you will be able to look at whether development ideas are practical by considering economic, human, political, legal, environmental and aesthetic issues, such as how a piece of land should be developed, and what effect this will have on the local community of the environment.  You will be trained to balance the public interest against private interests to improve the quality of life for everyone and to build a sustainable future.
